Kolkata ask five players to leave

Close on the heels of the unrest in the Bangalore camp, five domestic players in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad have been asked to go home.

The players - Ranadeb Bose, Sourashish Lahiri, Rohan Banerjee, Cheteshwar Pujara and Yashpal Singh have been released of their contract.

These players have not had a chance to play for the Knight Riders side so far in the IPL.

Team director Joy Bhattacharya said the decision was taken by the team management, which felt it was best to relieve the players since they had little chance of playing in the remaining six league games of the IPL.

He added that the coach John Buchanan did not want players sitting idle in hotel rooms when they had little chance of playing.

"John had planned for some practice matches where these players were to have been included. But since there is hardly any time to host any, we have decided to release them," Bhattacharya told The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported that the five contracted players will be allowed to stay with the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise till Sunday and not a single penny will be deducted from their contracted amounts.
